Oleochemicals are products derived directly or indirectly from naturally occurring fats and oils from animals or vegetable sources. Basic oleochemicals include fatty acids, fatty alcohols and glycerine. Fatty acids are used mainly in detergents and soaps, personal care, cosmetics, and food processing. Glycerine is used mainly in personal care, tobacco, lubrication, food, HVAC, paint, explosives, pharmaceuticals, and plastic production. Fatty alcohols are typically processed further into anionic and non-ionic surfactants.
Basic oleochemicals are now commoditized and currently most growth in the oleochemicals market is happening in Asia, particularly in China, India, Indonesia, and Malaysia, due to strong demand growth and/or the availability of raw materials.
