Advanced Battery Energy Storage Systems (2024 Program)

Advanced battery energy storage systems (BESS) are growing in importance with declining costs and increased integration with intermittent renewable power sources (e.g., solar PV and wind). Advanced BESS units plus renewable power are becoming a greater part of overall power generation mix while reducing carbon footprint, achieving decarbonization targets, and enhancing sustainability. Advanced BESS units also play an important role in many commercial and industrial applications as well as production of green ammonia, green methanol, and renewable and specialty chemicals’ industries. Current BESS units’ supply chains incorporate various commercially proven battery chemistries and technologies along with efficient subsystems, equipment, and components.
